Real estate district value cards, 1928-1980.

Cards prepared under Section 70.57 of the Wisconsin Statutes for the purpose of determining the final judgment of real estate equalization values for classes of property within each tax district. The cards show the increase or decrease in value compared to the previous year for residential, mercantile, manufacturing, agricultural, swamp, and timber property.

The Dept. of Revenue's Division of State and Local Finance was created in 1972 under Chapter 125, Laws 1971. Under this law, the municipal audit function was transferred to the Dept. of Revenue (WIHV85-A365) from the Dept. of Administration. The 1899 Legislature provided for the office of Tax Commissioner to supervise the state's taxation system. This agency did not replace the State Board of Assessment (see WIHV94-A15) which had been created in 1868 to perform the state's taxing functions.
